About

Woodland Mosses is a research and development lab focusing on sustainable materials. The program explores various possibilities of mycelium architecture as an aff ordable, energy effi cient material. There are spaces to cultivate various types of mycelium, as well as collection spaces that focus on surface application. The laboratories enable developing a material with a sustainable life cycle, one that minimizes strain on the environment. The space also explores the human experience, maximizing human comfort through the material. More than a sustainable item, the mycelium material would contribute to heat and sound insulation in various environments.

The aquatic, stone, and forest collections work on developing mycelium as a building material in diff erent landscapes and climates. The project provides design areas to cultivate material unique to the ecosystem and temperature of each environment. For instance, the aquatic collection develops mycelium for use in water-prone sites. Its focus is to create building material for areas that are prone to fl ooding or sinking, such as Jakarta or Lagos.
